Transmission Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

SPEEDOMETER VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR AND DRIVE GEAR FOR SPEEDOMETER

Note: These parts can be replaced with the transmission installed.






Replacing Speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor
- Disconnect harness connector from sensor -A-.
- Press down clamp and carefully remove sensor; do not damage sensor, or speed may not be indicated accurately.
- Check seal -B- when installing; replace if necessary.

Replacing Drive Gear For Speedometer
- Disconnect drive axle from flanged shaft on left side.






- Remove drive flange and seal -B-. Remove drive gear -A- for speedometer by prying evenly at studs (arrows -1-).

Installing
- Flange (arrow -2-) faces the differential housing.
- Driver studs of drive gear then face seal -B- and engage in grooves on differential housing.
- Replace seal -B- and circlip -C- for flanged shaft.
- Top up gear oil.
