Procedures







Removing Flanged Shaft
- Place chisel or spacer -A- behind flanged shaft.
- Pull flanged shaft out of differential bevel gears by turning bolt -B-

Note: The procedure for removing the flanged shafts on right and left is identical






Replacing Circlip For Flanged Shaft
- Clamp flanged shaft in vice using protective jaws. Press circlip out of groove in flanged shaft using new circlip -A-.






Removing Outer Race Of Small Tapered Roller Bearing (direction of arrow)
- Unscrew flanges -A- and -B- far enough for them to be touching bearing outer race within housing recess.






Installing Outer Race Of Small Tapered Roller Bearing






Removing Inner Race Of Small Tapered Roller Bearing
- Place pressure plate VW 40-105 onto differential housing before installing puller.






Removing Inner Race Of Large Tapered Roller Bearing
- Place pressure plate VW 40-105 onto differential housing before installing puller.






Removing Outer Race Of Large Tapered Roller Bearing
- Unscrew flanges -A- and -B- far enough for them to be touching bearing outer race within housing recess.






Installing Seal For Flanged Shaft Into Cover For Final Drive
- Drive in seal 5.5 mm (0.217 in.) below top edge of cover.






Installing Seal For Flanged Shaft Into Transmission Housing
- Drive in seal 5.5 mm (0.217 in.) below top edge of housing.
