Outside Rear View Mirror - Removing and Installing

Outside Rear View Mirror, removing/installing

MODEL(s):
A6/S6 from 1995 m.y.

The following information describing the removing and installing of the outside rearview mirror will be integrated into the next update of the 100/A6/S4/S6 Repair Manual microfiche, W42-544-192-F14.



OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR, REMOVING/INSTALLING

Removing

- Lower door window completely.




- Pry out tab (arrow) of cover -2-.

- Remove screw -1-

^ Tightening torque: 2 Nm (18 in. lb)




- Remove screw -1- with washer -2-

^ Tightening torque: 8 Nm (70 in.lb.)

- Lift out mirror -4- behind window slot seal and window rail.
- Remove seal -3- and disconnector electrical connector.

Note:
Remove The inside door panel before removing The electrical connector, -> Repair Group 70.

Installing

- Install in reverse order of removal.
- Align mirror with window slot.



MIRROR GLASS, REMOVING/INSTALLING

Removing




- Using a plastic wedge, carefully pry out mirror glass, first at bottom, then from top

- Disconnect electrical connector.

Installing

- Connect electrical connector.
- Place mirror glass on guide pins and spring and press on.

Note:
Only apply pressure on center of glass. Wear gloves when pressing on mirror glass.




^ Contact finger on mirror glass -2- must also be inserted in contact spring when installing mirror glass in housing -1-.



OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR HOUSING, REMOVING/INSTALLING

Removing

- Remove mirror glass.




- Remove screws -4- (2x left front, 1 x right front)
- Press retaining clips -2- and remove cover -3-.
- Remove screws -1 - (3x left front, right front 2x)
- Remove housing -5- by moving it upward.

MIRROR ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM, REMOVING/INSTALLING

Removing

- Obtain radio security code.
- Disconnect battery Ground cable.




- Remove screws -1- (3x)

^ Tightening torque: 1 Nm (9 in. lb)

- Cut wires close to housing.
- Install wiring in connector included with replacement part.

Note:
Use old unit or wiring diagram for location of wires.

Installing

- Install in reverse order of removal.
- Connect battery, Ground cable.
- Code radio for anti-theft security.
