With Airbag
REPLACENOTE: On air bag equipped vehicles, refer to Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems), Service Precautions. Also refer to Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.

1. Vehicles with audio coded antitheft system refer to Radio/Stereo, Service Precautions.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Ensure wheels are in a straight ahead position, then remove air bag unit (horn pad) Torx head bolts from left and right side of steering wheel, Fig.9.
4. Tilt air bag unit backward carefully, then lift up safety clamp and disconnect electrical connector from air bag unit, Fig.10.
5. Store air bag unit face up (Audi rings pointing up) in a safe place. Do not expose air bag unit to excessive heat (above 212°F) or place near anything that may puncture it.
6. Remove steering column trim and disconnect spiral spring connector.
7. Place matchmarks on steering wheel and column for later assembly, then remove retaining nut and steering wheel.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Ensure turn signal lever is in central position.
- Ensure spiral spring is centered.
- Torque steering wheel retaining nut to 30 ft. lbs.
- Ensure no one is inside of vehicle when connecting battery ground cable.
