Clutch Disc: Service and Repair

Notes:
- Refer to general repair instructions. Service and Repair
- Remove the transmission to carry out any work on the clutch.

1. Flywheel
- Make sure centering pins are in place and seated securely
- Contact surface for clutch friction lining must be free of grooves, oil and grease
- Use flywheel holding tool 10-201 for removing and installing
2. Flywheel mounting bolt
- Always replace
- 30 Nm (22 ft lb) plus additional 1/4-turn (90°)
- Additional 1/4-turn (90°) may be completed in several steps
3. Clutch disc
- Centering: refer to figure
- Watch installation position: spring cage faces pressure plate
- Do not grease
- Diameter: refer to Specifications

Notes:
- Clean input shaft splines and, if the clutch disc is worn, also the splines in the hub. Remove corrosion and apply only a very thin layer of G 000 100 grease to the input shaft splines.
- Following this, move the clutch disc back and forth on the input shaft until the hub moves freely on the shaft. Always remove excess grease.

4. Pressure plate
- Removing and installing: refer to figure
- Checking ends of diaphragm spring: see Removing and Installing Clutch (below)

CAUTION! The pressure plate assembly is treated against corrosion and greased. Only the friction surface should be cleaned, otherwise the service life of clutch will be considerably reduced.

5. Bolt
- 25 Nm (18 ft lb)





Removing and Installing Clutch
A = Centering tool 3176
- Loosen or tighten bolts evenly and in stages, alternating in diagonal pattern.
* Change position of holding tool 10-201 when removing.
* Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

CAUTION!
- Pressure plate must fit over alignment pins and make complete contact with flywheel Do not insert the mounting bolts before this.
- Under no circumstances should force be exerted on the pressure plate. Otherwise, centering holes in pressure plate and centering pins in flywheel will be damaged.






Checking Ends Of Diaphragm-Spring
- Wear equalling up to half the diaphragm-spring thickness is permissible.

CAUTION! For repairs, it is essential to match the clutch pressure plate and the clutch disc according to engine application using the Parts Information.
