Differential, Disassembling and Assembling







Note: Refer to "Differential, Removing and Installing".

1. Ring gear
- Matched to pinion (gear set)
- When gear set is replaced, ring gear and pinion must be adjusted: Ring and Pinion Gear Set, List Of Adjustments. Adjustments
- Drive off differential housing with drift: described below
- Heat to 100°C (212°F)
- Use centering pins as guide when installing
2. Differential housing
- Adjust ring gear if housing is replaced: refer to "Ring Gear Adjusting". Adjustments
3. Bolt
- Use only genuine replacement ring gear bolts
- First hand-tighten bolts, then tighten evenly in diagonal pattern to 90 Nm (66 ft lb)
4. Large differential gears
- Installing: described below
5. Small differential gears
- Installing: described below
6. Differential bevel gear shaft
- Drive out with drift after removing spring pin
7. Spring pin
- Drive out with drift
8. Thrust washer assembly
- Use gear oil when installing
9. Inner race of small tapered roller bearing
- Refer to "Differential, Removing and Installing"
10. Inner race of large tapered roller bearing
- Removing and installing: Refer to "Differential, Removing and Installing"
11. Speedometer drive gear
- Removing and installing: Refer to "Differential, Removing and Installing"
- Collar (arrow) points toward differential housing

Installing Differential Bevel Gears
- Coat thrust washer assembly with gear oil before installing.
- Insert large gears.
- Insert drive flanges without circlips.
- Insert small gears, offset 180°, and swing in by turning drive flange shafts.
- Align thrust washer assembly with small gears.
- Drive in shaft and spring pin.
