Front brakes, servicing

CAUTION: Always install all parts included in repair kit.
Brakes can be tested on any commercially available brake dynamometer provided the drive roller speed does not exceed 5.5 km/h (3.3 mph).







1. Guide pin 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
Bolt together with brake pad carrier

2. Cap
Remove for access to guide pin
Lower cap with guide for brake pad wear indicator wiring

3. Brake hose
Do not disconnect to replace brake pads

4. Bracket
Bolt to brake caliper housing
Install harness connector for brake pad wear indicator

5. Bolt 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

6. Harness connector
Disconnect when changing brake pads

7. Brake line
15 Nm (11 ft lb)
Install in brake caliper housing
Connect to brake hose; hold hex on brake hose fitting when tightening

8. Serrated bolt
125 Nm (92 ft lb)
Clean serrations under head when reusing

9. Brake pads
Brake pad wear indicator light, if so equipped, lights up in instrument cluster when brake pads are worn
Replace in pairs, refer to Brake Pad/Service and Repair Service and Repair
Thickness (new): 14 mm (0.6 in)

10. Brake pad carrier
Bolt to wheel bearing housing

11. Brake disc
Replace in pairs only
Remove brake caliper before removing disc
Resurface uniformly on both sides when necessary, starting from thickness when new; make sure that thickness of resurfaced disc is sufficiently above wear limit

Ventilated disc:
Diameter: 288 mm (11.338 in)
Thickness: 25 mm (0.984 in)
Wear limit: 23 mm (0.905 in)

12. Retaining spring
Install by engaging in both holes in brake caliper housing

13. Brake caliper housing
Remove from brake pad carrier to replace brake pads
