Shift Linkage: Adjustments

With Selector Lever Cable Loosened At Transmission Only
- Move selector lever into "P" position.





- Loosen bolts at selector lever cable supporting plate as necessary until supporting plate can be moved.





- Move selector shaft lever at transmission to "P" position (to rear as far as stop).
- While doing so, pull selector lever cable in direction shown (arrow).
- Align selector lever cable free of tension by moving supporting plate, and tighten bolts on plate to 23 Nm (17 ft lb).

NOTE: If slots in supporting plate are not long enough to align selector lever cable free of tension, adjust selector lever cable at selector lever as described in "WITH SELECTOR LEVER CABLE LOOSENED AT SELECTOR LEVER", below.

- Switch ignition on.
- Depress brake pedal and hold until end of check.
- Slowly shift selector lever from "P" position through "R", "N", "D", "3", "2" and "1" positions, checking each time whether selector lever indicator in instrument cluster agrees with selector lever position.

- If not:

- Repeat adjustment or adjust multi-function transmission range switch, refer to Powertrain Management.

With Selector Lever Cable Loosened At Selector Lever

NOTE: Center console and footwell heating duct (center) removed.

- Move selector lever into "P" position.





- Loosen nut at clamp for selector lever cable.





- Move selector shaft lever at transmission into "P" position (to the rear as far as the stop).
- While doing so, pull selector lever cable in direction shown (arrow).





- Markings on selector lever cable supporting plate (arrows) must be aligned with center of mounting bolts.
- Align if necessary.





- Tighten clamping pin nut to 20 Nm (15 ft lb).

NOTE: Before tightening, make sure that the selector lever cable is free of tension.

- Switch ignition on.
- Depress brake pedal and hold until end of the check.
- Slowly shift selector lever from "P" position through "R", "N", "D", "3", "2" and "1" positions, checking each time whether selector lever indicator in instrument cluster agrees with selector lever position.

- If not:

- Repeat adjustment or adjust multi-function transmission range switch, refer to Powertrain Management.
