8 PIN CONNECTOR

Fig. 1 Control Unit Harness Connector Terminal Identification:

1. Connect multimeter US 1119, or equivalent, between control unit harness electrical connector terminal 1 and ground, refer to Fig. 1.
2. Switch cruise control main switch to the On position.
3. If circuit is open, replace defective steering column switch.
4. If circuit shows continuity, move switch slightly toward the Off position, but do not turn off.
5. If circuit is open, replace steering column cruise control switch.
6. If circuit shows continuity, connect multimeter between control unit harness connector terminal 3 and ground.
7. Switch steering column cruise control switch On and Off.
8. If value remained constant, replace defective steering column switch.
9. If reading shows continuity when On and open when Off, switch cruise control main switch to the On position.
10. Move switch slightly to the Off position, but do not turn switch Off.
11. If zero continuity, replace defective steering column switch.
12. If circuit is open, connect multimeter between control unit harness connector terminal 6 and ground.
13. Push switch to the Resume position.
14. If circuit is open, replace defective steering column switch.
15. If circuit shows continuity, connect control unit harness connector between terminal 3 and ground.
16. Push switch to the Resume position.
17. If circuit is open, replace defective steering column switch.
18. If circuit shows continuity, connect multimeter between control unit harness connector terminal 2 and ground.
19. Press the Set switch. If circuit shows continuity, refer to VACUUM PUMP CHECK.
20. If circuit is open, replace defective steering column switch and/or repair wiring.

12 PIN CONNECTOR

Fig.2 Control Unit Harness Connector Terminal Identification (12-Pin Connector).:

1. Connect multimeter tool No. US 1119, or equivalent, set to voltage scale between control unit harness electrical connector terminal eight and five on 12 pin type control unit connector Fig. 2.
2. Turn cruise control switch to the On position, then drive vehicle at a speed in excess of 20 MPH and read voltage.
3. If voltage is zero, repair wiring and/or replace cruise control switch as outlined under Combination Switch.
4. If 12 volts are found, connect multimeter set to ohm scale to terminals eight and ten, then push cruise control switch to Resume position.
5. If circuit is open, repair wiring and/or replace cruise control switch as outlined under Combination Switch.
6. If circuit is closed, connect multimeter set to ohm scale to terminals eight and four, then press Fix/Set button and read meter.
7. If circuit is open, repair wiring and/or replace cruise control switch as outlined under Combination Switch.
8. If circuit is closed, connect multimeter set to ohm scale to terminals 11 and five, then press On button and read meter.
9. If circuit is open, repair wiring and/or replace cruise control switch as outlined under Combination Switch.
10. If circuit is closed proceed to tests under Brake Or Clutch Pedal Switch Defective.
