VAG1551 Scan Tool, Connecting
WARNING!- When driving or riding in an airbag-equipped vehicle, NEVER hold the scan tool or other test equipment in your hands or lap while in motion. Objects between you and the airbag increase the risk of injury in an accident.
- During a test drive in an airbag-equipped vehicle, test equipment must always be fastened to and operated from the rear seat by a second technician.

Connecting - m.y. 1994-1995
- Connect VAG1551 scan tool with VAG1551/1 adapter to Data Link Connectors (DLC) in fuse/relay panel (in plenum, left side).
- BlackVAG1551/1 connector to black DLC
- White VAG1551/1 connector to white DLC
NOTE: The blue connector is not used for con vertible top system OBD.

NOTE:
- If there is no display, check the voltage supply to the black DLC (from fuse 21, terminal 30).
- Press -> button to advance through the OBD program sequence.
Selecting function
- Switch ignition on.
NOTES:
- Press the "HELP" button for additional information.
- Press the -> button to advance through the OBD program sequence.
- Press the "PRINT" button to switch on the scan tool printer (indicator light in button comes on).
- Press button -1- to select "Rapid data transfer" operating mode 1.

NOTE: An automatic test sequence (a check of DTC memory for all Systems with OBD capability) is carried out by selecting address word 00 and pressing the -Q- button to confirm.
- Press buttons -2- and -6- to insert "Automatic Roof Control" address word 26.

If "Control module does not answer" appears in the display, a list of the possible malfunction causes can be printed out by pressing the HELP button.

Also check the following:
- Check fuse for convertible top control module -J256- per wiring diagram.
- Check test lead and Data Link Connector (DLC) wiring.
- Check voltage supply (B+) for convertible top control module -J256- per wiring diagram.
- Convertible top control module -J256- malfunctioning.
- After repairing malfunction, insert "Automatic Roof Control" address word 26 again.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.
If "Error in communication link" is displayed see checking for short.

- Disconnect On Board Diagnostic (OBD) wiring to individual systems See White DLC Wire Connection".
- After repairing malfunction, insert "Automatic Roof Control" address word 26 again.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.
