Turbocharger: Service and Repair

REPLACE
1. When servicing the turbocharger, observe the following precautions:

- Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air intake boots and disconnect vacuum hose between turbocharger and air intake duct.

2. Unclip air cleaner cover, then remove oxygen sensor and CO measuring tube.
3. Remove cover plate below exhaust pipe, then disconnect exhaust pipe from turbocharger and wastegate pipe.
4. Disconnect exhaust pipe from transmission mount and front muffler, then remove exhaust pipe.
5. Remove alternator cooling air hose, then disconnect cooling air hose at right engine mount.
6. Disconnect intercooler hose from turbocharger, then the lower coolant line and oil return line from turbocharger.
7. Remove alternator, then disconnect upper coolant line and oil supply line from turbocharger.
8. Disconnect and remove turbocharger.
9. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:

a. Thoroughly clean all connections and areas around the connections prior to disconnecting.
b. Place removed parts on clean surface and cover with paper or plastic.
c. Components that have been opened or disassembled, must be covered or carefully sealed if repair cannot be carried out immediately.
d. Install only clean components. Unpack replacement parts immediately before installation. Do not use parts that have not been properly stored.
e. When fuel system is open, do not work with compressed air or move vehicle unless absolutely necessary.
f. Tighten attaching bolts to specifications.
