Front brakes, servicing (S4/S6 models)CAUTION: Always install all parts included in repair kit.
Brakes can be tested on any commercially available brake dynamometer provided the drive roller speed does not exceed 5.5 km/h (3.3 mph).
1. Brake hose
Do not disconnect to replace brake pads
2. Bolt 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
3. Bracket
Install on brake caliper housing
Install harness connector for brake pad wear indicator
4. Retaining spring
5. Serrated bolt 250 Nm (184 ft lb)
Clean serrations when reusing
6. Brake line
7. Brake caliper
During installation, do not let caliper hang by brake hose, instead tie up to body with wire
Except for replacing brake pads and repairing brake calipers, no other repairs can be done on brake caliper
Make sure brake caliper is free of contamination (grease, adhesive residue) before installing brake pads
8. Torx� bolt 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
Part of brake pad repair kit and must be used
Remove and install with standard commercial Torx T40 driver such as Hazet T40
9. Harness connector
Remove from bracket on brake caliper when changing brake pads
10. Wiring bracket
Install brake pad wear indicator wire in wiring holder
11. Brake pads
Brake pad wear indicator light, if so equipped, lights up in instrument cluster when brake pads are worn
Remove adhesive backing on outer brake pad backing plate before installing
Replace in pairs, refer to Brake Pad/Service and Repair Service and Repair
Thickness (new): 14 mm (0.55 in)
Note: Before installing new brake pads, brake calipers should be cleaned thoroughly. Pay special attention to removing adhesive film residue on contact surfaces for outer brake pads.
12. Brake disc
Replace in pairs
Remove brake caliper first
When resurfacing, make sure thickness of resurfaced disc is sufficiently above wear limit
Diameter: 314 mm (12.36 in)
Thickness: 30 mm (1.18 in)
Wear limit: 28 mm (1.10 in)
