Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Testing and Inspection

Connector located behind instrument cluster.
- Remove instrument cluster.





- Disconnect five-point outside temperature display connector.

Terminal 1: speed signal
- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to mV range.
- Connect red multimeter test lead to terminal -1- of five-point connector and black multimeter test lead to ground (-).
- Drive vehicle at walking speed.
- Must be approx. 4 mV

Terminal 2: temperature sensor
- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to measure resistance (Ohm).





- Connect red multimeter test lead to terminal -2- of five-point connector and black multimeter test lead to ground (-).
- Resistance value must match chart at left (varies with temperature)

Terminal 3: Ground (GND)
- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to measure resistance (Ohm).





- Connect red multimeter test lead to terminal -3- of five-point connector and black multimeter test lead to ground (-).
- Must be 0 ohms (continuity)

Terminal 4: instrument illumination, terminal 58d
- Switch parking lights ON.
- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to volt range.





- Connect red multimeter test lead to terminal -4- of five-point connector and black multimeter test lead to ground (-).
- Must be approx. battery voltage (depends on position of instrument panel light dimmer switch)

Terminal 5: positive, terminal 15a
- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to volt range.
- Connect red multimeter test lead to terminal -5- of five-point connector and black multimeter test lead to ground (-).
- Switch ignition ON.
- Must be approx. battery voltage
