Rear
Rear wheel bearing housing, removing and installingNote: The illustrations show the rear axle without stabilizer bar. Deviations in the illustration for rear axle with stabilizer bar are not critical here.
Removing
- On vehicles with alloy wheels, pull cover off with special tool 3208.
- Remove bolt and washer assembly (only with vehicle standing on wheels).
- Remove wheel.
- Remove brake caliper (arrow) and tie up to body with wire.
- Remove brake disc.
- Remove wheel bearing housing from trapezoidal arm (lower arrow).
- Remove wheel speed sensor from wheel bearing housing (upper arrow).
- Remove wheel bearing housing from support (arrow).
- Disconnect lower suspension strut mount (arrow).
- Remove mounting bolt.
- For rear axle with stabilizer bar, remove stabilizer bar link rod bracket.
- Remove transverse link from wheel bearing housing.
- Pull wheel bearing housing off drive axle.
Installing
- Install wheel bearing housing on drive axle.
- Bolt transverse link to wheel bearing housing; use new self- locking nut (arrow); torque to 200 Nm (148 ft lb).
- On rear axle with stabilizer bar, mount stabilizer bar link rod bracket.
- Connect lower strut, install new self-locking nuts, and tighten bolts to 90 Nm (66 ft lb), only with vehicle resting on wheels.
- Fasten wheel bearing housing onto support and trapezoidal arm. Use new self-locking mounting bolts. Tighten bolts to 170 Nm (104 ft lb) plus another 3/4-turn (135°), with vehicle resting on wheels.
- Press ABS wheel speed sensor in to stop.
- Install brake disc and caliper; tighten to 65 Nm (48 ft lb).
- Install wheel.
- Install new bolt and washer assembly and tighten to 200 Nm (148 ft lb) plus another 1/4-turn (90°), only with vehicle resting on wheels.
- Install hub cap and/or wheel cover.
