Evaporative Emissions System: Testing and Inspection

EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS (EVAP) SYSTEM AND EVAP CANISTER, CHECKING FOR LEAKS:
- Stop engine and switch ignition off.
- Check to be sure that locking cap for fuel tank is closed completely.
- Disconnect line to EVAP canister at fuel system leak detection pump -V144-.

- Connect VAG 1371 pressure gauge and VAG 1397A turbocharger tester by fitting connector piece to line -1- (e.g. connector Part No. 056 129 737).

NOTE: Part numbers are listed for reference only. Always check with AUDI Parts Department for the latest information.

- Connect VAG 1397A turbocharger tester to connection II.
- Place test range switch on turbocharger tester to position II.

- Close control valve from VAG 1371 pressure gauge (note direction of arrow).
- Connect valve attachment to tire pressure valve.
- Switch on turbocharger tester.
- Open control valve on pressure gauge until display value on turbocharger tester no longer increases (tank system releases pressure via locking cap).

NOTE: Opening pressure of locking cap for fuel tank is approx. 0.30-0.45 bar (4.4-6.5 psi).

- Close control valve.

After 15 minutes (with no temperature change), pressure must not drop below 0.15 bar (2.2 psi).

If necessary, check
- Locking cap and locking flange for fuel tank.
- Dual clamp with hose line between fuel tank and filler neck.
- Fuel tank.
- Fuel level sensor 0-ring.
- All vent lines, connections to EVAP system, EVAP canister and EVAP canister purge regulator valve -N80- for leaks (possibly with leak detecting spray).

NOTE: After completing the test, the tire pressure must be checked.
