About Trouble Codes

The DTC tables shown in the Images list the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) and possible malfunctions recognized by the A/C control head -E87-, which are displayed and/or printed on the VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST).

- Diagnostic trouble codes stored in DTC memory are retained until they are erased.
- Intermittent or "sporadic" malfunctions are identified with "/SP" on the right side of the scan tool display.
- The 5-digit DTC is not displayed on the VAG1551 scan tool, but only printed out using the scan tool printer.
- If stored DTCs indicate possible faulty components, first check wiring and connections (terminals 75, 30 and 31) for open or short circuits, according to the wiring diagrams, before replacing the components.
- After replacing a faulty component, initiate "Basic Setting" function 04 and check DTC memory.
- Use VAG1598 test box and the VAG1598/11 or VAG1598/12 adapters to check electrical connections to the A/C control head -E87-.
- If the A/C control head -E87- stays on after the ignition is switched off, check the wiring for a short circuit to battery positive voltage (B+) between A/C control head connector D and terminal 1, according to the wiring diagrams.
- If 22 °C (71 °F) is always displayed on the A/C control head after switching the ignition on and off, regardless of the last temperature setting, check and repair the B+ power supply (terminal 30) to the A/C control head -E87- according to the wiring diagrams.
