Roof Operation Overview

Roof Operation Overview

The Convertible Top Control Module is located behind the right side of the rear seat back.

The Audi Cabriolet convertible top is electro-hydraulically operated via a single switch. Both up and down functions can be accomplished from inside the car and takes approximately 30 seconds.

For safety, automatic operation of the top can only be done when the parking brake is applied.

A hydraulic pump located in the trunk provides the necessary pressure to operate the roof. An electronic control module sequences and monitors the opening and closing of the roof. The control unit also provides on-board diagnostics for the system.

Convertible Top Control Module:

The control module performs the following tasks:

- Activates Convertible Top Unlocking Solenoid N187.
- Automatic opening and stowing of the convertible top after it has been unlatched.
- Automatic closing of the convertible top.
- Detection of input signals, primarily limit position switches and actuation of the solenoids.
- Interruption/resumption as well as reversal of the movement of the convertible top is possible at any time.
- Monitoring of the entire movement cycle to detect faults. The cycle is interrupted, if necessary, and an indicator lamp in the instrument cluster flashes.

1. - Car stationary.
- Ignition switched on.
- Parking brake applied.

2. - Release the top latch on the roof frame.
- Lift switch in the center console.
- Indicator light illuminates.
- The side windows are automatically lowered 15 cm.

3. - The tensioning bow cylinders pull the front of the convertible top back and up and raise the rear.
- The trunk lid is locked.

4. - The locks of the convertible top compartment cover are unlocked hydraulically. The compartment cover is opened by a cylinder.
- The convertible top is then stowed in the compartment by the main cylinder.

5. - The compartment cover is closed and the hydraulic cylinders in the two locks pull the compartment cover into the end position.
- The trunk lid is unlocked.
- The indicator light goes out and the car can be moved.
- If the Convertible Top Switch is continuously held in the up position even though the convertible top is completely stowed, all windows will be fully raised.
