1996 Model Audi A4 and Cabriolet
Modify OBD II Data Link Connector (DLC)
Dear Audi Dealer:
This is to inform you of the initiation of a service action campaign for some 1996 model Audi A4 and Cabriolet vehicles. This service action pertains to a modification of the On-Board-Diagnosis (OBD II) Data Link Connector (DLC).

Owner Notification Mailing
Only A4 owners also involved in the KC Recall Campaign will be notified concerning this action. Therefore, it is important to perform the remedy during the customer's next maintenance, repair or KC recall visit if the V-Crest system shows a "KE" service action code.
Vehicle Allocation
We will furnish you a computer list containing information for vehicles located within your area of responsibility.
Parts Information
The Audi A4 vehicles do not require any parts. The Cabriolet vehicles, however, require the installation of a new bracket, part 8G0 972 633 A. Additionally, some of the Audi A4, as well as Cabriolet vehicles may require affixing an OBD II label.
An initial supply of the bracket, part number 8G0 972 633 A, will automatically be allocated to you. Additional required brackets must be ordered by you from your facing depot.
Subsequent to receipt of this Circular, we will ship a sufficient supply of OBD II labels. Please keep these labels in a safe place so that a label is available if needed.
Special Tools
In order to modify the vehicle's DLC, a special tool kit is required which consists of a template and a reamer. Subsequent to receiving this Circular, one tool kit, US 9206 will be shipped to you free of charge. Please ensure that this tool kit remains in a safe place.
Replacement Time/Reimbursement
It is important to note that recall claims will only be paid if the work outlined herein is actually performed on a vehicle affected by this service action and where the dealer V-Crest system displays the campaign code.
Data Entry Procedure
The system automatically enters the part number, where applicable, and labor for the above listed codes.
For all vehicles which, according to your information are unreachable, please enter into the system one of the codes indicated as applicable:
KE 20 Customer Refused Repairs
KE 30 Total Loss
KE 40 Vehicle Stolen
KE 50 Vehicle Left U.S.

Dealer Obligation
To ensure customer satisfaction as well as minimize inconvenience, dealers are urged to complete the KE work in conjunction with the next service and make sure that each vehicle is returned to the customer washed and cleaned inside.
Do not let a customer wait any longer than necessary during service of the vehicle. Every effort must be made to reduce any inconvenience to customers.
