Condition

Engine cranks but will not start.

DTC 17746 (P1338) - (Camshaft Position Sensor, Bank 1 Open Circuit/Short to B+) stored in DTC memory.

Service

Prior to checking Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor -1- (G4O):





- Remove the Engine Speed sensor (G28) -2- (located behind oil filter housing on engine cylinder block).

- Verify the Speed sensor wheel is properly fastened.

If Speed sensor wheel is properly fastened:

- Reinstall Speed sensor(G28).

- Check CMP sensor -1- (G40), see page 28-2 of Repair Manual 1.8 Liter 5V Turbo OBDII Fuel Injection & Ignition (W42 014 195 115).

If Speed sensor wheel is loose:

- Contact the Audi Dealer Technicians Helpline.
