Closed Throttle Position (CTP) Switch -F60-, checking and adjusting

Note: Closed Throttle Position (CTP) switch is located in Throttle Position (TP) sensor assembly.

If silencer is removed when testing or adjusting Closed Throttle Position (CTP) switch, make sure during reinstallation of silencer that silencer is properly seated on throttle valve part to avoid intake air leak.

Test requirements:
Adjustment of accelerator pedal cable OK

Checking Closed Throttle Position (CTP) Switch:

- Remove silencer.
- Disconnect connector at throttle valve part.






- Use adapter cables from V.A.G 1594 connector test kit to connect V.A.G 1526 portable multimeter (resistance measurement) to terminal 4 and 6.
Specified value: 0 ohms (continuity).

- Operate throttle valve slightly.
Specified value: infinite ohms (no continuity).

- If specified value is not obtained or if specified value is obtained only after throttle valve opens farther, adjust Closed Throttle Position (CTP) switch.

If specified value is again not obtained after adjusting Closed Throttle Position (CTP) switch.
- Replace Throttle Position (TP) sensor.

Adjusting Closed Throttle Position (CTP) Switch

- Remove throttle body.
- Loosen both Throttle Position (TP) Sensor screws.






- Turn Throttle Position (TP) Sensor in direction of arrow until stop is noticeable. During this, throttle valve (accelerator operation) must not be moved.
- Tighten Throttle Position (TP) Sensor in this position.
- Check Closed Throttle Position (CTP) switch again.
- Install throttle valve part and adjust accelerator pedal cable.

Check wires between MFI control module and Closed Throttle Position (CTP) switch






Terminal assignment of connector for Closed Throttle Position (CTP) switch and Throttle Position (TP) Sensor.

- Connect V.A.G 1598/19 test box to wiring harness of MFI control module.

- Check Ground (GND) wire from terminal 4 of connector for Throttle Position (TP) Sensor to socket D12 of test box for continuity or short circuit to B+
Specified value: max. 1 ohm

- Check signal wire from terminal 6 of connector for Throttle Position (TP) Sensor to socket A4 of test box for continuity or short circuit to Ground (GND).
Specified value: max. 1 ohm






If specified values are not obtained.
- Determine and eliminate open circuit in wiring or short circuit according to wiring diagram.

Note: Use only gold-plated terminals when servicing terminals in connector for Throttle Position (TP) sensor.
