Tie Rod: Service and Repair

NOTE:
^ The tie rods on the left-hand and right-hand sides are identical parts.
^ They can be installed with the steering gear in place.
^ After performing work on the tie rods, check the suspension geometry (alignment). Service and Repair
^ For this procedure, use the tools shown in the following illustrations or their equivalents.
^ For additional information, refer to steering component locations. Locations

REMOVAL
1. Remove appropriate front wheel.
2. Loosen bolts -3- and -4-, pull out tie rod end toward rear.
3. Detach hose clamp at boot.
4. Push back boot and unbolt tie rod with wrench tool No. VAG 1923, or equivalent.

INSTALLATION
Reverse procedure to install.
