VAG 1598 Pin Out Box: Connection and Use

CAUTION: Set the relevant measuring range at the tester before connecting the test cables to avoid damaging any electronic components.

Test requirements:
- Battery voltage in order.
- Fuses 3, 15 and 31 for transmission control module in order.
- Fuses of the component being tested in order
- The fuse holder is located behind a cover in the side of the instrument panel.
- Ground connections OK:
- Check Battery Ground strap and Ground strap between body and transmission.

NOTES:
- Use digital multimeter Fluke 83 (US1119) for tests.
- The specified values stated apply to an ambient temperature of 10°...40°C(50°...104°F)
- If The readouts obtained differ from the specified values, determine the malfunction via the wiring diagram.
- If the readouts obtained differ only slightly from the specified values, clean the contacts and connectors of the testers and test wiring and repeat the test. Before replacing a particular component test the wiring and connections and repeat the resistance measurement at component, particularly in the case of specified values of less than 10.
- Use test box VAG 1598 with the adapter cable VAG 1598/20 for connecting the testers.
- The contact numbers of the connector and the socket numbers of the test box VAG 1598 are identical.

Note:
Switch ignition off for all test steps.
- Separate multi-pin connector from Transmission Control Module -J217- (control module is located in front of right front seat below carpeting in footwell).
- Connect test box VAG 1598 with adapter VAG 1598/20 to harness connector.

Note:
- If the readings obtained differ from the specifications, perform the measures stated in the right-hand column of the test table.
- Perform all the measures stated in the column "Corrective steps"
- Perform only the test steps recommended in the DTC table (specific testing).
