Functions 01 & 02-Check Control Module Version/Accessing DTCs
Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool. Connecting VAG 1551 Scan ToolNOTE:
^ The main program of the ABS control unit is deactivated during the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) program; the ABS/Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) is not operational.
^ The HELP button on VAG 1551, or equivalent, can be used to call up additional operating instructions.
^ The ARROW button is used to advance to the next step in the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) program sequence.
^ The printer can be switched on by pressing the PRINT button (indicator light comes on in button).

- Press button 1 for "Rapid data transfer" operating mode.

Insert Address word XX
- Press buttons 0 and 3 to insert "Brake Electronics" address word 03.

- Press Q button to confirm input.
If one of the following displays appear there is a malfunction in the communication link between the ABS control module and the VAG 1551 scan tool.
- Press HELP button to print out a list of possible causes.
Control module does not answer
OR
K wire not switching to ground HELP
OR
K wire not switching to B+ HELP
OR
No signal from control module
OR
Error in communication link
- Check wiring, power supply and ground connections for Data Link Connector (DLC).
- After correcting possible malfunctions, once again insert "Brake Electronics" address word 03 and press Q button to confirm input.
If there is no malfunction when establishing communication between the VAG 1551 scan tool and ABS control module, the control module identification appears in the display.
The control module coding is indicated only in the case of vehicles with a Traction Control System (TCS) or Anti-Slip Reduction (ASR).
The workshop code, WSC XXXXX, indicates the dealership number of the service department in which the control module was last coded.

NOTE:
^ The control module index can be altered only by replacing the control module.
^ Applications for the ABS control module refer to latest manufacturer's information.

- Press ARROW button.
Stored malfunctions are displayed and printed out one after the other.
If codes are retrieved:
- When all stored codes have been retrieved, press the ARROW button.
- Refer to Function 06, End Output, then turn ignition Off. Function 06-End Output
- Refer to DTC tables. Brakes and Traction Control
To erase DTCs, refer to Function 05, Erasing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Function 05-Erasing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
If no codes are stored, refer to Function 06, End Output. Function 06-End Output
