Combination Switch






1 Lever For Tilt Adjustment
- Remove before removing steering column switch; loosen socket-head bolt

2 Spring Clip

3 Lever For Length Adjustment
- Remove before removing steering column switch
- To remove, pry spring clip -2- out with small screwdriver

4 Boot
- Install upper hook in instrument panel, engage below

5 Upper Trim

6 Steering Column Switches With Lower Trim

7 Tapping Bolt
- Fasten upper trim to lower part

8 Oval-Head Bolt
- Fastens lower trim and boot

WARNING: For all repairs involving the airbag system, always follow appropriate safety precautions.

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground strap.
2. Remove steering wheel.
3. Bring wheels into straight-ahead position to prevent damage to airbag spiral spring in steering wheel.
4. Remove airbag unit from left and right sides of steering wheel with Torso T30 tool (Snap-On FTX 30A or equivalent).
5. Fold airbag unit back.
6. Disconnect safety clip for airbag harness connector.
7. Disconnect airbag unit connector.

WARNING: There must be no one within the operating range of the airbag when reconnecting the battery ground strap.

8. Pivot steering column length adjustment lever down,and pry securing spring clip off with small screwdriver.
9. Remove lever.
10. Loosen socket-head bolt.
11. Remove tilt adjustment lever
12. Remove upper trim for steering column switches, and remove boot mounting screw.
13. Disconnect harness connector for airbag unit (wound in foam).
14. Position wheels in straight-ahead position.
15. Remove steering wheel.
16. Loosen clamp on steering column switch assembly.

NOTE: The socket-head clamp shown, may have been replaced by a simple screw-type clamp.

17. Disconnect harness connectors from steering column switch assembly.
18. Remove steering column switch assembly with lower trim.
19. Disengage boot from instrument panel and remove.





INSTALLATION NOTES
- Install mounting screws for airbag unit by hand, tighten right screw to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.), then left screw to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
- Before installing steering wheel, position wheels in straight ahead position to ensure that airbag spiral spring in steering wheel will not be damaged.
- Before installing upper part of steering column switch, re-connect airbag unit harness connector and clip into place (arrow).

WARNING: There must be no one within the operating range of the air-bag when reconnecting the battery ground strap.

- Steering column switch clamp, tightening torque: 2.5 Nm (22 inch lbs.)
