Fuel Consumption Signal, Checking

This signal is needed for the fuel consumption display in the multi-function indicator.
- Remove instrument cluster. [1][2]Procedures
- Disconnect red 26-pin connector from instrument cluster.
- Connect VAG1598 test box with VAG1598/4 adapter to red 26-pin connector.
- With Fluke 83 multimeter, measure voltage between socket 19 and vehicle ground.
- Start engine and increase and decrease engine speed continuously between 1000 and 4000 rpm.

Specified value for signal from engine control module: 0.3 - 7.0 V, depending on load

If you do not get these readings, the instrument cluster is faulty and must be replaced. [1][2]Procedures

If the specifications are not reached:
- Check wiring between engine control module and instrument cluster according to wiring diagram

- If you find no wire break or short circuit, replace engine control module.
