Rear-view Mirrors
Supersedes T.B. Group 66 Number 98-01 date Mar. 11, 1998
Condition
Steam coming from heated outside rear-view mirror when cool moisture (i.e. driving through a car wash) comes into contact with heated mirror glass surfaces.
Service
Heated outside rear-view mirrors (including auto-dimming mirrors) are automatically heated when ignition is switched ON:
^ Mirror glass -2- is heated regardless of outside ambient temperature.
^ Maximum temperature of glass is 60°C approx. (140°F).
^ Due to smaller size of right side rear-view mirror, the temperature of the glass may be as much as 28°C (50°F) lower than the left side.
This condition is normal, NO action is required.
Note:
If a heated exterior rear view mirror must be replaced:
Only new version mirrors with thermo-switch are available. For a description of the new version mirror, see Technical Bulletin Group 66 Number 99-02 dated Mar 17, 7999.
New version mirror (with thermo-switch) can be retrofitted on vehicles from 1997--> 1999.
When installing a new version mirror it is only necessary to replace the inoperative mirror, DO NOT replace mirrors in pairs.
