Subject:
Underbody Plugs, Eliminating Wind Noises

Model(s):
ALL

Condition

Vehicle displays wind noise at some degree at all road speeds with windows in fully closed position.

May be caused by missing or improperly installed rubber underbody plugs or hoist lift point pads.

If underbody plugs/lift point pads are missing, wind noise can resonate through floor pan area into passenger compartment of vehicle.

Service

Lift vehicle and ensure that all underbody plugs and hoist lift point pads are installed and are properly positioned.

Be careful not to plug body drain holes, see your Parts Department for complete listing of underbody plugs.

Note:
Hoist lift point pads and rubber bottom floor plate plugs should always be inspected and installed during PDI inspections.

Whenever a vehicle is to be transported, the oval plugs removed from the tie-down holes in underbody should be placed in the vehicle trunk area for reinstallation when vehicle is received.
