Condition
Knocking/creaking noise from rear axle area. May be caused by poor fit of the rear axle bushing -A- to the rear axle.
Production
Bushings with optimized diameter installed as of VIN 8D_WA089000.
Note:
Only bushings installed in production are affected. All bushings in parts system are OK.
Service
To determine which bushing is affected:
- Lift vehicle on hoist.
- Using a large pair of channel locks, attempt to turn bushings on both sides of axle.
If bushing(s) can be turned:
- Install new bushing(s) Part No: 8D0 501 541D, see Repair Manual, Suspension, Wheels, Brakes, Steering, Repair Group 42.
Note:
DO NOT replace rear axle for this condition.
