Dear Audi Dealer:

This is to inform you of the initiation of a service action involving some 1998 model Audi A6 Sedan vehicles. The repair pertains to the replacement of the seat memory control unit.

Problem Description

It is possible that the seat memory logic for the driver's seat position may not function upon using the automatic seat adjustment feature (remote key/seat memory) prior to entering the vehicle.

Vehicle Identification Number Range

The vehicles affected by this service action are within the following vehicle identification number range:

WAU_ _ _4B_WN000001 - WAU_ _ _4B _WN135659

Please note that the above VINs represent the lowest and highest serial numbers of affected vehicles. Use of the V-Crest campaign inquiry system will allow you to determine whether or not a particular vehicle, within the above VIN range, requires the corrective work.

Note:
Audi will not reimburse under this service action any duplicate recall repair work or a repair outside the VIN range.

Remedial Action

Replace the seat memory control unit with a modified unit.

Owner Notification Mailing

Audi will begin mailing first class notification letters to all known owners on or about August 24, 1998. A copy of the owner letter is enclosed in this circular.

Vehicle Allocation

By separate mail and prior to owner notification, we will furnish to you a computer list containing information for all affected vehicles located within your area of responsibility.

Parts Information

We will automatically ship to you an initial supply of new control units, part number 4B0 959 760 A, in accordance with your dealership's vehicle allocation count.

Additional required parts must be ordered by you from your facing parts depot.

DO NOT OVER-ORDER any of these new control units; you maybe required to return excess inventory.

Parts Return Program

Removed control units must be properly tagged and returned with a copy of the 1551 print-out to:

Replacement Time/Reimbursement

To ensure proper payment, be sure to enter the reimbursement data only for VINs showing the KQ Code in the V-Crest campaign inquiry system on the day of repair.





KQ Data Entry Procedure

The system automatically enters the part number and labor applicable to the above listed codes. For vehicles which, are unreachable, please enter into the system one of the codes indicated as applicable:

KQ 20 Customer Refused Repairs
KQ 30 Total Loss
KQ 40 Vehicle Stolen
KQ 50 Vehicle Exported
KQ 60 Customer Moved - No Forwarding Address
KQ 70 Vehicle Sold - New Owner Unknown

Additional Campaigns

Some of the affected vehicles may also be involved in additional corrective actions. Please check your V-Crest campaign inquiry system so that any additional work can be done simultaneously.

Dealer Obligation

To ensure satisfaction as well as minimize inconvenience to your customers, you are urged to service each vehicle at the scheduled service appointment time, and make sure that each vehicle is returned to the customer washed and cleaned inside. Do not let any customer wait longer than necessary during the service of the vehicle. Every effort should be made to reduce inconvenience to customers.
