Front Bumper, Replacing Damaged Clips

Condition
Bumper clips needed for retaining lower engine sound absorption pan are damaged or broken.
Note:
Damage usually occurs if, when backing vehicle up, the lower bumper cover catches something i.e. parking abutment/curb or from light accident damage.
If damage is caused by outside influence, the repair is the responsibility of the customer.
Only failures due to a manufacturer's defect in material or workmanship will be considered a warranted item.
Important:
Please inform your customer that the following repair is an alternative repair to bumper cover replacement. The repair requires the use of small rivets which are installed through the bottom of the bumper cover (the rivets though visible on the underside of cover should not pose an appearance problem).
Service
The parts shown are required for each damaged or broken clip found.
CAUTION!
Part numbers are for reference only. Always check with your Parts Dept. for the latest parts information.
- Remove front bumper cover.
- If necessary remove broken portion of clip using a sharp gasket scraper or chisel and plastic mallet.
Note:
Only remove damaged clips!
In most cases the clip is missing completely, leaving only an impression of the missing clip.
- Mark this location by some visible means i.e. felt marker or tire crayon.
- Remove all small ribs (represented by white lines in illustration) on mounting surface of new clip using a file (this allows a flush mount to bumper cover).
- Align the forward edge of clip surface -arrows- to mark on bumper cover (use mark closest to the edge of the bumper cover).
- Using a 4 mm drill bit drill a hole (through clip and bumper cover), on each side of clip in the middle of clip base -arrows-.
- Insert black pop-rivet from bottom side of cover through cover and new clip and install aluminum washer over rivet before collapsing rivet.
- Reinstall bumper cover in reverse order of removal.
