Right Drive Flange Seal, Replacing

RIGHT DRIVE FLANGE SEAL, REPLACING

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items
^ VW681 extractor lever
^ 3382 right sealing ring installer

Removing

WARNING: Only loosen drive the axle/wheel hub bolt and the wheel bolts when the vehicle is standing on its wheels.

- Remove wheel.
- Remove right drive axle heat shield.
- Remove right drive axle.





- Prevent drive flange from turning using drift and remove center bolt from right drive flange (arrow).
- Place oil drain pan underneath transmission to catch spilled fluid.
- Pull out right drive flange.





- Remove seal for right drive flange.

Installing

Note: The open side of the seal faces the transmission.





- Drive seal for right drive flange in to stop.
Seal must be seated at uniform depth (around circumference) in housing.
- Install right drive flange.
- Install drive axle.
- Install right drive axle heat shield.
- Install wheel.
- With transmission installed, check final drive fluid level and correct as necessary.
