Air Injection: Testing and Inspection
Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system, checking
Required special tools and test equipment
- VAG 1551 or VAG 1552 Scan Tool (ST) with VAG 1551/3 adapter cable
- VAG 1598/22 test box
Checking
- Start output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) for secondary air (AIR) injection solenoid valve -N112-.Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) (Function 03)" Testing and Inspection
Indicated on display
Output Diagnostic Test Mode ->
Secondary Airinject Solenoid Valve-N112
The valve will click until pressing the -> button to advance the program sequence.
If the secondary air injection valve does not click:
- Disconnect the 2 pin harness connector from the secondary air injection valve.
- Connect VAG 1527B LED voltage tester to the harness connector terminals.
LED must blink.
If LED test light blinks:
- Replace secondary air injection valve.
If LED test light does not blink:
- Check voltage supply to valve using applicable wiring diagram.
If the voltage supply to the valve is OK:
- Switch ignition off.
- Connect VAG 1598/22 test box to ECM harness connector.Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks/Connecting VAG 1598/22 Test Box" Testing and Inspection
- Check wiring between test box socket 33 and terminal 2 of 2-pin connector.
Specified value: max. 1.5 Ohms
If wiring is OK:
- Replace Motronic ECM -J220-
- Carry out adaptation of throttle valve control module to ECM.
- Check readiness code.If Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory has been erased, or ECM was disconnected, generate new readiness code.
