Rear Side Airbags With Power Adjusted Seats, Deactivating And Reactivating
NOTE: Left and right side airbags can only be switched off together. A separate shut-off is not possible.
Deactivating
The deactivation procedure should only be done at the Client's written and signed request. See form.
CAUTION: Note safety measures when working with airbag.
- Obtain adhesive language label kit Part Number 4D0 010 043 J (two required per vehicle).
- For vehicles with coded radio unit, radio/navigation system (RNS) note coding; ask if necessary.
- Disconnect battery ground strap/cable and cover negative pole.
CAUTION: On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting the vehicle battery. Switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting the vehicle battery.
- Fold armrest forward.
- Press lock bracket on both sides of armrest in direction or arrow and remove armrest.
- Pull center cushion upward at rear edge -arrow 1-.
- Slide center cushion to back -arrow 2- and remove.
- Press lock- 1 -and separate yellow and orange connectors - 2 - for side airbag left and right.
- Secure loose connectors with tie wraps (leaving connectors disconnected).
- Install center cushion.
- Switch ignition on.
- Connect battery.
WARNING: When connecting battery make sure no one is in the vehicle.
- Apply label for deactivated rear side airbags.
- Fax copies of Repair Order and completed and signed Client request form to Audi Product Support at: (800) 839-5499. Also retain a copy for your records.
- Code control module to disable rear side airbags:
Reactivating
- For vehicles with coded radio unit, radio/navigation system (RNS) note coding; ask if necessary.
- Disconnect battery ground strap/cable and cover negative pole.
CAUTION: On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting the vehicle battery. Switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting the vehicle battery.
- Fold armrest forward.
- Press lock bracket on both sides of armrest in direction or arrow and remove armrest.
- Pull center cushion upward at rear edge -arrow 1-.
- Slide center cushion to the back -arrow 2- and remove.
- Cut cable tie of connector.
- Connect connectors together.
- Install center cushion.
- Switch ignition on.
- Connect battery.
WARNING: When connecting battery make sure no one is in the vehicle.
- Remove label for deactivated rear side airbags.
- Code control module to reactivate rear side airbags:

- Place label for deactivated side airbags (left and right) to frame of rear doors - arrow -.
NOTE: If a country requires more labels, place them above the label as shown in the illustration.
- Upon reactivation of rear side airbags, remove label and use cleaning solution to remove any adhesive residue.
