Camshaft Bearing Cap Tightening Sequence & Torque

Note: Numbers on bearing caps must appear upright when viewed from intake side.
Exhaust camshaft:
- Unbolt intermediate flange and rearmost bearing cap for camshaft position sensor housing.
- Remove bearing cap in front of drive chain, and bearing caps -2- and -3-.
- Gradually loosen bearing caps -1- and -4-, alternating in diagonal sequence.
Intake camshaft:
- Remove bearing cap -6- and -7-.
- Gradually loosen bearing caps -5- and -8-, alternating in diagonal sequence.
Installing
- Install camshafts with drive chain so that markings on sprockets are aligned with each other (arrows)
Notes: When installing the bearing caps, make sure that the stamped numbers appear upright when viewed from the intake side.
The contact surface of both outer bearing caps should be coated lightly with AMV 174 003 01.
Intake camshaft:
- Tighten bearing caps -5- and -8- evenly, alternating in diagonal sequence.
- Install remaining bearing caps.
Exhaust camshaft:
- Tighten bearing caps -1- and -4- evenly, alternating in diagonal sequence.
- Install remaining bearing caps
Tightening torques
Camshaft bearing caps: 15 Nm (11 ft lb)
