VAG 1551 Scan Tool, Connecting
Test conditions
- Battery voltage at least 11 V
- Ground connections for transmission and engine OK
- Fuses OK

- Ground connection for transmission OK
See Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Locations.
- Check battery Ground connection between battery and transmission
- Switch off ignition
- Connect VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST) with adapter cable VAG1551/3.
CAUTION!
- During road tests perform measurements or tests only from the rear seat by a second technician.
- All occupants must wear seat belts.
- Secure test equipment to prevent it from being dislodged in case of an accident.
- Switch off ignition before connecting or disconnecting test equipment.
Indicated on display:
VAG On Board Diagnostic HELP
1 - Rapid data transfer*
2 - Blink code output*
* is displayed alternately
NOTE: If display remains blank:

- Switch on printer with PRINT button. Control light in button will light up.
- Press button 1 for "Rapid data transfer."

Insert address word XX
NOTE: With address word 00, the automatic test sequence is initiated, starting with checking the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory of all sensors and components in the vehicle that are monitored by the OBD system using rapid data transfer.
