Malfunction, Steering Column & Headrest Adjustment, Driver's
Troubleshooting Procedure For Malfunction of Power Steering Column and Headrest Adjustment, Drive's Side with memory
Requirements
^ Fuse No. 9 OK
^ Applicable wiring diagram available
Test Equipment
^ Multimeter Fluke 83 (or equivalent)
1. Control modules, locations:
^ Control module for steering column-belt height adjustment -J352-: under driver's seat on floorpan.
2. Measurements at Control module for steering column-belt height adjustment -J352- harness connector
- Disconnect 25 pin harness connector from control module
- Using Fluke 83, check control module harness harness connector
Terminal 13: 31 Ground
Terminal 11: 30 Battery voltage
Terminal 12: 30 Battery voltage
Terminal 6: 86s Battery voltage, ignition switch 1/8 turn
Terminal 7: 30 Voltage between 1V and approx. 12V when memory button is pressed
Terminal 10: 30 Battery voltage, "ON/OFF' button pressed
3. Checking switch for steering column height adjustment
- 25 pin harness connector from control module disconnected
- Operate switch as specified below
- Using Fluke 83, check control module harness harness connector
Terminal 8: 31 Ground when switch set to "entry assistance"
Terminal 14: 31 Ground when switch set to "out", then Battery
voltage
Terminal 15: 31 Ground when switch set to "in", then Battery
voltage
Terminal 18: 31 Ground when switch set to "tilt down", then Battery voltage
Terminal 19: 31 Ground when switch set to "tilt up", then Battery voltage
NOTE: Check switch power and ground supply for steering column height adjustment using wiring diagram
4. Checking switch for belt height adjustment, driver's side
- 25 pin harness connector from control module disconnected
- Operate switch as specified below
- Using Fluke 83, check control module harness harness connector
Terminal 22: 31 Ground when switch set to "up", then
- Battery voltage
Terminal 23: 31 Ground when switch set to "down", then Battery voltage
NOTE: Check switch power and ground supply for belt height adjustment using wiring diagram
5. Corrective measures
If all specified values are obtained, carry out the following steps in sequence:
- Check wiring harnesses for possible open/short circuit using wiring diagram (check continuity between control modules, switches and servo motors).
- Confirm function
- If inoperative, replace control module for steering column-belt height adjustment -J352-
- Confirm function
- If inoperative, servo motors can only be replaced by replacement of complete steering column assembly
NOTE: Check wire harness routing in area of adjustable steering column. Harnesses must not be pinched, twisted or routed under tension.
