Electrically Adjustable Steering Column Switch

WARNING!
- Airbag system components must only be checked, removed, installed and/or repaired by qualified Service Department personnel
- Before starting work on any parts of the airbag system, disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap. When reconnecting the Ground strap, the passenger compartment must not be occupied.
- Always refer to airbag system safety precautions.



Removing
- Disconnect battery ground (GND).
- Turn steering wheel and front wheels to straight-ahead position.
- Pull adjustable steering column out as far as it will go and set to lowest position.
- Using Torx T30 bit, remove screws for airbag unit from left and right sides of back of steering wheel.





- Tightening torque: 7 Nm (62 in.lb.)
- Carefully pivot airbag unit forward.
- Disconnect harness connector from airbag unit and place airbag unit facing up.





- Remove two screws -8- and carefully pull out upper half of steering column trim -1-.
- Disconnect electrical connector from spiral spring.
- Remove nut -12- (secures steering wheel -11-) and remove steering wheel.
- Tightening torque: 50 Nm (37 ft.lb.)

CAUTION: When removing the steering wheel, the spiral spring must not be unwound from its middle position.

- Remove screws -5- and -6- and Torx screw -9-.
- Remove lower steering column trim -7-.
- Disconnect electrical connector for steering column height adjuster.





- Remove screws -1- and remove switch -2- from cover.





Installing
- Install steering column switches -2- and hand-tighten socket head screw -3-.
- Install steering wheel -1- and adjust distance -a- to 3 mm (0.118 in.).
- Remove steering wheel.
- Finish installation in reverse order of removal.
