Fuel Tank, Removing and Installing



Caution!
Fire Hazard! DO NOT smoke, or work near heaters. DO NOT have anything in the area that can ignite fuel!

Caution!
Be sure to obtain proper radio code (for vehicles equipped with coded anti-theft radio) before disconnecting battery.


- Fuel tank empty.

- Battery ground strap disconnected.

- Hold fuel tank with VAG1383A.

Removing

- Remove fuel filler cap.

- Note positions of hose connections for installation.

- Disconnect harness connectors and wiring for fuel level sensor and fuel pump, please refer to Vehicle/ Powertrain Management/ Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/ Fuel Pump/ Service and Repair/ .

- Remove right rear wheel.

- Remove wheel housing liner.






- Remove fuel tank mounting bolt behind wheel housing liner ( - arrow -).







- Disconnect front breather hose on fuel tank ( - arrow -).
- Loosen and remove mounting bolts for fuel tank support straps.

- Remove fuel tank by moving downward and turning to side.

- Install in revers order of removal.
