Disassembly/Assembly






1. Bracket
- Part of body structure
2. Bolt
- Tighten to: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
3. Nuts
- Tighten to: 35 Nm (26 ft lb)
- Always replace
4. Washers
5. Washers
6. Bolts
7. Bracket
8. Steering lock housing
9. Torch bolt
- Tighten to: 7 Nm (62 inch lbs)
- Remove and install with Torx drive bit (Snap-On FTXR30 or equivalent)
10. Spring
11. Lock washers
- Always replace
- Install with tensioner 3168, refer to Replacement.
- Separate carefully with small grinder, then pry off with screwdriver

WARNING: Washers are under force from spring tension.

CAUTION: Cover the instrument panel and windshield to prevent damage from sharks while grinding.

12. Steering column tube
- Upper and lower parts
- Lined with bonded plastic

CAUTION:
^ Do not exert any force by hammering on the steering column in any direction {radial or axial).
^ The slightest compression of the steering column upper and lower parts, as after an accident, means the steering column tube must be replaced.
^ The upper and lower parts of the steering column are marked with a red dot (paint sea/). If the dot has sheared off, the steering column tube must be replaced.
^ Exposure to temperatures greater than 100°C (212°F) may cause the connection between top and bottom sections to work loose.
^ Exposure to lubricants, solvents or cleaning agents may cause the connection between top and bottom sections to work loose.

13. Bolt
- Tighten to: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Always replace
14. Steering gear pinion
15. Bolt
- Always replace
16. Universal joint
17. Washer
18. Nut
- Tighten to: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Always replace
19. Rubber bushings
20. Teflon bushing
- Install with collar facing steering wheel
21. Spacer bushing
22. Washer
23. Nut
- Tighten to: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Always replace
24. Steering column
- Removing and installing, refer to Replacement.
- Push column in fully
- Must not be under stress or preload
