Condition

Customer reports lack of power.

Service

If condition exists perform the following:

WARNING!
When road testing a vehicle, ALWAYS use a second Technician to operate the VAG 1551 Scan Tool

Never place anything between you and the driver or passenger Airbag.

- Connect the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST).

- Start engine, press button -1- to select "Rapid data transfer" operating mode 01.

- Press buttons -0- and -1- to insert "Engine Electronics" address word 01, then press -Q- button to confirm input.

- Press the --> button.

- Press buttons -0- and -8- to select "Read Measuring Value Block" Function 08, then press -Q- button to confirm input.

- Press buttons -0-, -0- and -4- to select Display Group 4, then press -Q- button to confirm input.

- Observe field 3 which displays engine coolant temperature.

When engine coolant temperature is between 45°C and 65°C, Road test vehicle and:

- Press the -C- button ,then press buttons -0-, -2- and -0- to select Display Group 20, then press -Q- button to confirm input.

- Accelerate from a stop at wide open throttle while pushing the print button as many times as possible.

- Repeat procedure with engine coolant temperature above 80°C.





- Using the Scan Tool printouts, add figures from 4 channels -arrows- of Display Group 20 together.

If in any of the rows printed, the sum of the 4 channels is greater than 15°:

- Install new ECM, Part No: 8D0 907 558M

If part is not available through the Part Department:

- Contact the Audi Dealer Technicians Helpline.

If in all the rows printed, the sum of the 4 channels is 15° or less:

- Check Turbocharger and Wastegate operation as outlined in Repair Manual A4 1.8 Liter 5V Turbo General Engine booklet No. W42 014 195 114.

Note:
ALWAYS retain a copy of the 1551 printout in the vehicle data file.
