Seat Cover And Padding For Split Rear Backrest (from m.y. 1998 on), Removing And Installing







Seat cover and padding for 1/3 rear backrest, removing and installing

Removing:
- Remove backrest.
- Unbolt bolts - 2 - (2x) of lock trim - 3 -.
- Remove headrest - 4 - by pressing button on left headrest guide - 6 -.
- Remove headrest guide - 6 - Fig. 2.
- Pry grip channel - 10 - out of backrest shell - 5 -.
- Using screwdriver, pry contour strip - 11 - out of mounting - 12 -.
- Cut through wire clips - 7 - and remove seat cover - A -.

Installing:







- Use VAG 1634 upholstery pliers to install new wire clamps.

1 - Lock lever
- Unbolt bolts - 2 - (2x) of lock trim - 3 -.
- Detach lock lever from below from catches (2x).
- Pry off top of lock lever using screwdriver.

- When installing, first install upper bolt, then lower bolt
4 - Headrest
- Outer rear headrests are not identical to front headrests

- When removing all headrests, mark headrests with tape.

8 - Locking cylinder
- Ignition key is required to remove and install locking cylinder
- Remove lock lever.
- Using screwdriver, lift catches while simultaneously pressing out locking cylinder - 8 -.
9 - Warning indicator
- When rear backrest is locked, pin - 1 - is 2 mm above lock trim
- If rear backrest is not locked, pin lies approx. 20 mm above lock trim and a red mark is visible
10 - Rear grip channel, all around
11 - Contour strip
12 - Mounting







Seat cover and padding for 2/3 rear backrest, removing and installing

Removing:
- Remove backrest.
- Unbolt bolts - 2 - (2x) of lock trim - 3 -.
- Remove headrest - 4 - by pressing button on left headrest guide - 6 -.
- Remove center headrest - 10 - by pressing button on left and right headrest guide - 13 -.
- Remove armrest - 11 -.
- Remove ski sack - 12 -.
- Remove headrest guide - 13 - Fig. 1.
- Remove headrest guide - 6 -Fig. 2.
- Pry grip channel - 15 - out of backrest shell - 5 -.
- Using screwdriver, pry off cover for three-point seat belt - 18 -.







- Detach hooks - 17 - at wire bracket - 19 -.
- Using screwdriver, pry contour strip - 16 - out of mounting - 14 -.
- Cut through wire clips - 7 - and remove seat cover - A -.

Installing:
- Use VAG1634 upholstery pliers to install new wire clamps.

NOTE: Check points after full backrest installation:

- The anti-twist stop and belt webbing should not touch or rub against foam or cover components.
- Anti-twist stop must follow all belt webbing movements.
- Belt webbing must move freely in all directions.

- Unbolt bolts - 2 - (2x) of lock trim - 3 -.
- Detach lock lever from below from catches (2x).
- Pry off top of lock lever using screwdriver.

- Outer rear headrests are not identical to front headrests

- When removing all headrests, mark headrests with tape.

- Always install guide with button on left
- Button must always face left
7 - Wire clips
8 - Locking cylinder
- Ignition key is required to remove and install locking cylinder

- Remove lock lever.
- Using screwdriver, lift catches while simultaneously pressing out locking cylinder.







9 - Warning indicator
- When rear backrest is locked, pin - 1 - is 2 mm above lock trim
- If rear backrest is not locked, pin lies approx. 20 mm above lock trim and a red mark is visible
10 - Center headrest
11 - Armrest
12 - Ski sack
- Cut out ski sack if new cover is installed.
13 - Center headrest guide
- Buttons are located on both headrest guides
- Button must always face left
14 - Retaining groove
15 - Rear grip channel, all around
16 - Grip channel on headrest
17 - Hook
18 - Cover for three-point seat belt
19 - Wire bracket

Headrest guide - 1 - is shown removed in illustration.
- Insert upholstery needle or screwdriver - 3 - (max. width 2 mm) into hole - 4 - (hole - 4 - is located across from retaining clip for headrest guide).
- Press catch - 2 - in direction of arrow - B - by pushing screwdriver - 3 - in direction of arrow - A - while at the same time pulling out headrest guide - 1 -.
