Magnetic Ring Replacement
NOTE: The following special tools and test equipment are required for this work:
VW 401 - Thrust plate
VW 402 - Thrust plate
VW 412 - Thrust disc
2040 - Press tube
32-109 - Driving sleeve
REMOVAL
- Remove left flange shaft.
- Remove circlip -arrow A- for ball bearing.
- Use thrust disc VW 412 to press flange shaft out of mounting bracket for left flange shaft.
When pressing place mounting bracket onto the thrust plates VW 401 and VW 402.
- Pull magnetic ring for Speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor off flange shaft or take out of mounting bracket.
INSTALLATION
- Install magnetic ring for Speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor -arrow- onto flange shaft.
NOTE:
- The followers on the magnetic ring must mesh into the slots on the flange shaft.
- Fix the location of the magnetic ring, if necessary, by coating the contact surface with petroleum jelly.
- Press mounting bracket together with ball bearing onto left flange shaft.
When pressing, place flange shaft onto the thrust plate VW 401. Use thrust disc VW 412, press tube 2040 and driving sleeve 32-109 to press on mounting bracket.
- Install circlip -arrow A-.
- Install left flange shaft.
- Check gear oil in final drive and top up.
- Tighten the following components to:
Mounting bracket for left flange shaft to transmission:23 Nm (17 ft lb)
Drive shaft to flange shaft: 80 Nm (59 ft lb)
Drive shaft to wheel hub:
14 mm stretch bolts (replace): 115 Nm(85 ft lb)+ 90°
16 mm stretch bolts (replace): 190 Nm (140 ft lb) + 90°
Heat shield to transmission: 23 Nm (17 ft lb)
