Sunroof Sliding Headliner, Replacing Slides

A4 1999 -->

Condition
Sunroof binding or noisy (sliding headliner replaced as an assembly) due to broken slide(s).

Service
If sunroof sliding headliner slide(s) are broken or damaged:

DO NOT replace complete sliding headliner.





- New slide(s) with increased tab width (identified by raised bump -arrow- at location shown) should be installed.





- Install 4 new slides Part No: 8D5 877 165A item -1- (always use new screw -2- included with slide) as outlined in this bulletin.

CAUTION!

Sliding headliner, removing and installing front slides

- Sunroof glass removed (see Repair Manual Repair Group 60 Sunroof, servicing)

- Slide headliner to rear.





- Remove forward screw -arrow- on left/right sides. Pull slide forward over stop -1 -.

CAUTION!
Always remove any debris left by broken slides. Failure to do so will cause further damage to new slides and / or sunroof.

- Install in reverse order of removal.

- Ensure slide is square to sliding headliner and guide rail

- Torque 3.5 Nm (31 in. lb)

Sliding headliner, removing and installing rear slides

- Sunroof glass removed (see Repair Manual Repair Group 60 Sunroof, servicing)

- Slide headliner forward.

- Remove rear screw -arrow- on left, right sides. Pull slide forward over stop (item -1- illustration A60-0018).

- Install in reverse order of removal.

- Ensure slide is square to sliding headliner and guide rail

- Torque = 3.5 Nm (31 in. lb)

When procedure applies to vehicles within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, use the following:

Repl. (qty. 4) sunroof glass removed (claimed separately)
