Fuel Pump Module and Fuel Level Sensor, Component Overview
Part I
WARNING! Fire hazard! When working on the fuel system DO NOT smoke, work near heaters or have anything in the area that can ignite the fuel or fumes.
1 - Fuel supply line
- From distributor connector to pump in lower accumulator unit
- Is part of accumulator
- Not available as replacement part
- Install at distributor connector -3-
2 - Accumulator
- Houses pump
3 - Distributor connector
- Secured with 3 tabs in accumulator
- To remove, push toward left to release tabs
- When installing, attach fuel line to accumulator
4 - Harness connector inside tank
- From sender for fuel gauge -G- to sender for fuel gauge II
- Secured with 2 tie-wraps (item -6-) to fuel pump lines
5 - Sender for fuel gauge -G-
- With tabs installed to accumulator
6 - Tie wraps
- Fuel resistant
7 - Closing ring
- Remove and install using 3087 wrench
8 - Seal
- Replace if necessary
- When installing, moisten seal with fuel before installing into tank opening
9 - Sender II for fuel gauge -G169-
10 - Suction jet pump
- With fuel lines
- Attached to sender II for fuel gauge
Removing:
- Remove sender II for fuel gauge.
- Remove fuel pump module.
- Disengage and remove distributor connector -3-.
- Remove fuel return line from accumulator.
Part II
1 - Distributor connector
- Fastened with 3 tabs
- To remove, move toward left to disengage tabs
- When installing, attach fuel hose to accumulator
- When removing fuel pump module, remove distributor connector to make it possible to remove return line from closing flange
2 - Accumulator
- With pump
3 - Wiring inside tank
- To sender II for fuel gauge -G169-
- Install at closing flange
4 - Electrical wire
- To sender for fuel gauge -G
- Install at closing flange
5 - Harness connector
- For fuel pump and all senders for fuel gauges
- Carefully release 4-pin harness connector.
6 - Fuel return line
- Attached to front part of fuel tank
- Mark line before removing
7 - Fuel pressure line
- To fuel filter
- Attached to front part of fuel tank
- Mark line before removing
8 - Closing ring
- Remove and install using 3087 wrench
9 - Seal
- Replace if necessary
- When installing, moisten with fuel and install in fuel tank opening
10 - Closing flange
- Not available as replacement part
- Note arrow markings when installing
11 - Fuel pump module
- Can only be replaced together with closing flange
12 - O-rings
- Always replace
- Observe installation position
13 - Fuel return line
- To remove fuel pump module, disengage distributor connector and disconnect return line at distributor connector -1- while pressing fastening tabs
14 - Fuel filter screen
- Cannot be replaced as single part
- Clean if dirty
