Zero Position Adjustment of Steering Angle Sensor -G85-

Zero position compensation of steering angle sensor -G85- must be performed with an accuracy of it 5 degrees.
Zero position compensation of steering angle sensor -G85- is necessary in these cases:
^ If ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104-, steering angle sensor -G85- or the steering column are replaced,
^ After performing coding of ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104-.
^ If suspension or steering geometry is adjusted when checking wheel alignment.
^ If there is a code in the DTC memory of ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104- and the instructions in the DTC table require the zero position compensation to be carried out.
- Start engine.
- Turn steering wheel one turn to the right and one turn to the left.
- Perform a short road test: drive in a straight line on a level surface at a speed not higher than 20 km/h.

If the steering wheel is properly centered (road test)
- Bring the vehicle to a standstill - still keeping it in a straight line.
- Perform zero position compensation.
- Take care not to move the steering wheel from this point onward.
- Do not switch off the ignition.

If the steering wheel is not properly centered
- Make the necessary adjustments by checking wheel alignment.
- If the steering geometry has to be checked, center the steering as instructed by electronic wheel alignment equipment (i.e. set front wheels accurately to straight ahead position).
- Now perform zero position compensation.
- Take care not to move the steering wheel from this point onward.
- Do not switch off the ignition.
- Connect VAS 5051 vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system or VAG 1551 scan tool and select address word 03 for "Brake electronics".

- Enter code number 40168 and confirm entry with -Q- button.

- Press buttons -0- and -4- to select function "Basic setting".

- Press -Q- button to confirm input.

- Press buttons -0-, -0- and -1-.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.





- If this display appears, this means the function "Login procedure" has not been performed successfully.

- Check zero position via Function 08 "Read Measuring Value Block"

- Check DTC Memory
- Erase DTC memory
- Switch off ignition.
- Switch on ignition.
- Perform zero position compensation once again.
- Go to start position of program by pressing --> button:
