Removing
- Remove transfer gear.
A - KUKKO 22/1 support
B - KUKKO 21/4 internal puller
Note: The upper part of the illustration shows how the extractor hooks on the internal puller -B- must be inserted into the needle bearing.
- Move centering sleeve -2- of puller -B- about 4 mm (5/32 inch) in direction shown (arrow) so that extractor hooks of puller can be opened wide enough.
- Engage internal puller -B- in upper lip of needle bearing -land tighten nut on puller.
- Set up support -A- on puller -B- as illustrated.
- Brace support -A- against VW402 thrust plate and apply tension with nut -3- of support.
- Using standard commercial hot air blower, quickly heat up outside of transfer housing in vicinity of needle bearing seat to approx. 1001° (212°F).
- Pull out needle bearing quickly.
Installing
The needle bearing is installed in reverse order of removal. In addition, the following work steps have to be carried out:
- Check needle bearing seat in transfer housing for damage; rework surface if necessary.
- Using standard commercial hot air blower, heat up outside of transfer housing in vicinity of needle bearing seat evenly to approx. 100°C (212°F).
- Install press tool 30-557 on new needle bearing -1,
- Using special tools VW408a and 2080A, drive in needle bearing to seat in transfer housing.
