Capacity Specifications
NOTES:
- Always refer to safety measures. Service Precautions
- When charging the system on the high pressure side, always use the maximum amount of A/C refrigerant, as some of the refrigerant remains in the hoses of the refrigerant recovery recycling and recharging unit
- In the engine compartment there is a sticker with data on the capacity and the type of refrigerant
The R-134a refrigerant capacity depends on the version of the following components:
- Condenser
- Evaporator (installed in air conditioner)
- Restrictor
Condenser version
- During a running change to a condenser with the smaller flat tubes starting the 1st week in 1999.
NOTE: If the condenser is replaced, the flat tube dimensions must be noted. If a condenser with other dimensions is installed, information plate -A- with the capacity data for refrigerant R134a must also be replaced, or the old capacity data must be removed and the new capacity entered using a waterproof pen.
Air conditioner version
- In the period from week 36 to week 44, 1998, there was a running change in production from the version 1 air conditioner to the version 2 air conditioner. The two versions can be differentiated by specific characteristics.
- On vehicles with the version 2 air conditioner, a little less refrigerant needs to be added than in the version 1 air conditioner.
Restrictor version
- Since November 1997, restrictors with a smaller hole have been installed in production, and are colored (at first yellow) so that they can be identified.
- On vehicles in which the colored restrictors are installed, somewhat more refrigerant has to be added.
Capacities for the Audi A6
NOTES
- The AudiA6 A/C refrigerant system can be identified by the restrictor reservoir and compressor from the manufacturer "Denso."
- There was a running change in production from the version 1 air conditioner to the version 2 air conditioner starting September 1998. Since the evaporator was also modified along with the air conditioner the capacity could be reduced. The two air conditioner versions can be differentiated by specific characteristics. Application and ID
- During a running change in production starting January 1999, a condenser with smaller flat tubes is installed. After the parts are used up, only condensers with small flat tubes will be available from the Parts Department. Because of the smaller internal volume of the new condenser the capacity is lower. Take measurements to differentiate between the two versions of the condensers.. The new capacities for the condensers with the smaller flat tubes will be available at a later time.
- If the condenser is replaced, attention must be paid to the dimensions of the flat tubes. If a condenser with other dimensions is installed, the information plate with the capacity data for the refrigerant must also be replaced, or the old capacity data has to be removed and the new capacity entered using a waterproof pen.
- Since November 1997, restrictors with a modified hole (colored) have been installed in production. For vehicles in which modified restrictors are installed, the capacities are increased by 50 grams. If a restrictor with a different hole is installed, the information plate with the capacity data for the refrigerant must also be replaced, or the old capacity data has to be removed and the new capacity entered using a waterproof pen.
- So that the two restrictor versions can be differentiated, the restrictor with the smaller hole (narrow neck) is colored (at first yellow).
- If a colored restrictor is installed in a vehicle in which the previous restrictor had not been colored, 50 grams more refrigerant should be added.
- The compressor manufacturer "Nippondenso" has changed its name to "Denso."
