Exhaust System: Service and Repair







Exhaust system, removing and installing

Notes:
^ Align exhaust system free of stress, Refer to Exhaust System, Adjusting.
^ Checking exhaust system for leaks, Refer to Exhaust System, Testing and Inspection.
^ Separation point between center silencer and rear silencer, Refer to Fig. 1.
^ Seals and nuts should always be replaced.
^ Tightening torque, cross member to floor assembly.25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
^ The retaining loops for the center and rear silencers are the same in design, but have different elasticity, Refer to parts Supplier.

1. Exhaust manifold, left
2. Exhaust manifold gaskets
^ Metal side of gasket must face toward cylinder head
3. Exhaust manifold, right
4. Heated Oxygen Sensors (H02S)
^ Bank 1. H02S
^ Bank 2- H02S 2
^ 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)
^ Coat threads with G5 grease
^ G5 must not get into slots on H02S probe
5. Nut
^ Always replace
^ 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
6. Front exhaust pipe with Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC), right
7. Hanger
^ Attachment, Refer to Fig. 2 and Fig. 3
8. Double clamp
^ Tighten evenly, 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
^ Installation position, Refer to Exhaust System, Adjustments.
^ Replace each time after loosening connection
9. Retaining loop
^ Visually identical to retaining loop - 11 but with different elasticity
^ Bolts to fasten bracket to floor assembly: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
10. Center silencer

^ Visually identical to retaining loop - 9 -, but with different elasticity
^ Bolts to fasten bracket to floor assembly: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
12. Rear silencer
^ Adjusting exhaust system pre-load, Refer to Exhaust System, Adjusting.
^ Align tailpipes, Refer to Exhaust System, Adjusting.
13. Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC), left
14. Bolt
15. Seal
16. Nut
^ Always replace
^ 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
17. Nut
^ Always replace
^ 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
18. Washer
19. Left-front exhaust pipe

A separation point is provided for replacing the center silencer or rear silencer separately.
- Separate connecting pipe between center silencer and rear silencer at location identified by groove.
a - Approximately 240 mm (9 1/2 inch)
b - Approximately 200 mm (8 inch)
Two short clamps are provided for connecting the separate center and rear silencers.
^ Installed position of rear double clamp, Refer to Exhaust System, Adjusting.
^ Bolt points must not be deeper than the lower edge of the clamping sleeve.
