Fuel Gauge Sender -G- Signal, Checking




If the fuel volume indication is faulty, first determine whether the signal reaches the instrument cluster.
- Connect VAG1551 or VAG1552 scan tool. VAG 1551 Scan Tool, Connecting
- Read measuring value block. Read Measuring Value Block (Scan Tool Function 08)
- Select channel number 002.

If the fuel volume is shown in the display of the scan tool, the instrument cluster is faulty and must be replaced.

If the scan tool does not show fuel volume in the display, check the multi-pin connector at the instrument cluster.
- Remove instrument cluster. [1][2]Procedures
- Connect VAG1598 test box with VAG1598/4 adapter to yellow 26-pin connector.
- With Fluke 83 multimeter, measure resistance between socket 1 and socket 2 (ground).

Specified values:
- Tank full: approx. 12 ohm
- Tank at reserve I: approx. 154 ohm
- Tank at reserve II: approx. 163 ohm

If you do not get these readings:

Check wiring to fuel tank sender according to wiring diagram.
