Additional Safety Requirements For Side Curtain Airbags

ALL the safety precautions for driver-side and passenger-side airbags apply, as well as the following:

CAUTION:
- A visual check for damage of vehicle trim panel must be run before every installation.
- Vehicle trim panels (A-pillar trim panel top, B top, C top, D narrow and D-pillar trim panel top) cannot be repaired if damaged. They must be replaced.
- Make sure trim panel is securely fitted during installation.
- Side curtain airbag module must not be bent.
- For repairs behind side curtain airbag, always remove module completely (do not remove partially and bend).







- For storing and transporting removed airbag modules - 1 - , engage front part (from A-pillar) at clamping sleeve - 3 - clamp - 2 -.







- After removal, place side curtain airbag module - 1 - into transport container as a loop or lay on a clean, even surface (on a blanket or in luggage compartment).
- After servicing body in vicinity of airbag, check body for welding beads, deformations and chafe marks (compare with opposite side of vehicle).
- Always hold side curtain airbag securely.







- After removal, always fold side curtain airbag module - 1 - and grasp by igniter (thumbs towards E-connection).
- Always keep one hand on plastic housing
- Never twist, wind, bend, throw, spin, pull, hang, squeeze, press, pinch or clamp side curtain airbag module.
- If any contamination penetrates into the fabric, like oil, grease, lacquer, paint or solvent, the module must always be replaced.

NOTE:
- For vehicles with airbag 8, display will indicate airbag front + side or airbag front + side overhead.
- Airbag control module can be used for up to three actuations of side/side curtain airbags and/or belt tensioners.
- After the third actuation, the DTC "control module malfunctioning" will appear.

Airbag control module must be replaced:
- after driver-side/ passenger-side airbag deployment.
- if housing is damaged.
- if there is a deformation at channel, in a circumference of 200 mm around control module.
- after three airbag deployments.

Also replace the following if side curtain airbag deploys:
- Acceleration sensor for side airbag that deployed.
- Trim panel at A-pillar, B-pillar, C-pillar, D-pillar.
- Lateral acceleration sensor if area near sensor in floor pan is deformed.
